Louisiana is one of the only states that does not require a person to be licensed in order to be a waterfowl guide. In fact there are no requirements at all. Anyone can become a hunting guide just by claiming to be one.

Most states require that a guide licenses be purchased and proof of liability insurance provided.  In instances where a person or guide service employees one or more hunting guides, then an outfitter fee is also required.

The State of Louisiana may not only be missing out on a revenue stream through the sale of licenses , but also the tax base that operating a business would generate.

It would also go a long  way in protecting the public from unscrupulous guides.

    So what do you think?
